Azzurri chooses Sorrento to increase fibre bandwidth

March 20, 2017

UK-based Azzurri Communications has agreed to supply its clients with technology designed by Denver-based Sorrento Networks.

Azzurri will use Sorrento’s technology to deliver more high-bandwidth applications and services over fiber optic networks.

Azzurri will use Sorrento’s metro optical access solutions to increase the capacity of its clients’ existing fiber networks – relieving bandwidth pressure from new technologies such as web 2.0, VoIP, and mobile broadband.

Jim Nevelle, Sorrento CEO, explained: “As traffic grows and metropolitan networks become more complex, we are seeing unprecedented demand to rapidly add greater bandwidth capacity and scalability without investing in costly new fiber.”

Azzurri believes that Sorrento’s solution will be attractive to network providers because it adds capacity to existing networks, removing the need for a complete network upgrade.

David Macfarlane, Azzuri chief technology officer, said: “Sorrento’s advanced Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology enables carriers to add capacity and flexibility to existing optical networks.”

Sorrento’s most recent technology, the 10 Gigabit Optical Ethernet Transport (OET) line card, adds multiple Gigament Ethernet circuits to existing networks. This reduces installation cost and increases network efficiency.

Financial details the partnership deal were not disclosed.
